Winner and Move-in

I am back from the move in! It was a lot of work but she is back for her second year!  Her dorms this year are pretty new so that makes it enjoyable. It was a great day!

It is like a castle and it fits the "princess"!

It is an apartment type dorm with 4 separate bedrooms and a living room and kitchenette.

My ticket sign graces her door!

We raised the bed to give her more room.

She is able to have a dresser and desk under the bed to work on homework.

She has her Audrey pictures up and there are more to hang!

Next week she will add more!

 Someone is missing her!
As am I!

Congratulations! YOU are a winner of the UPrinting Brochures! Please send me your email address ASAP!

Teacup Candleholders

Remember there is still a giveaway going on! Please enter HERE!

Do you have some odd pieces hanging around the house that can be transformed?

Here is an easy project....

I got a teacup,,,,

then gathered my tea cup saucers....

I used E6000 to glue the teacup to the bottom of the saucer leaving the print side up

Waited for it to dry and then turned it upside down. Placed a candle in the dish and presto!

A pretty candleholder.......How easy is that?!

By the way....the dog is named Dudley

My daughter is obsesses with England and it is a town there. It is also the name of a Harry Potter character. The spoiled one!

Now if our Dudley would just "DO-RIGHT!"

He is keeping us hopping!

This is a stolen sock! Oh Boy we have our hands full!
But our hearts are full too!

He is too cute!

Annie Sloan

Ok I finally tried Annie Sloan Paint!

It is a really different kind of paint and I really like the finish. I only have tried the one color.

It is costly but from what I can tell it is going to last a long time. It is easy to work with especially sanding.

I did however try it with my own wax and it still looks great!

I tried Paris Grey on this little table. Funny when you are not sure of things you look for something small to try it out on.

Painted and distressed it already looks better

This is a cute little table and the paint went on smooth and easy.  It dried quickly which to me was a big plus. The down side would be that it says one coat but I can tell that somethings will take two.

I will use it again but I am not giving up on my regular latex paint.  I am glad I have a new addition to the mix!  Like changing things up!

There is still a GIVEAWAY going on through the weekend. I will be moving my daughter in to her dorm so the winner will be announced on Tues. Good Luck! Please be sure to enter!

I will try to post something but if you don't see me it is because we are moving college stuff!!!
I promise I will be back!

Cloche

Handmade Cloche

Please enter the GIVEAWAY! Very low numbers!

Thanks for all the great comments about our new puppy! He is precious! It is like having a new baby. You can let him out of your site!

My last design post was about remaking chandeliers.  Finding used lighting can be inexpensive. There are so many possibilities and I like creating new things!

I recently purchased a glass chandelier dome at the restore place.  It already had a hole in the top of it so it was easy to make it into a cloche.

I just had to clean it and find a drawer pull big enough. I attached it to the to and It became a great cloche.

It also makes a great terrarium.

Lighting fixtures are easy to find and there are so many ideas of things you can use them for.  Just think outside the box! This project just took a couple of minute to do.

What have you made with lighting fixtures?

Please enter the GIVEAWAY! Very low numbers!

Our New Baby!

It's A Boy!

We have a new baby around here. On Saturday we adopted!

He is four months old and adorable.

He is a black lab mix.

We are firm believers in adopting since there are so many animals in shelters. Our other dog was adopted twelve years ago. She is the best dog we ever had. Growing up we rescued one, adopted one, and took one in that a family didn't want. They were all the best pets. All gentle and loving. We are hoping this little guy is the same.

We are still trying to decide on a name. It is my daughter's dog and since she is a theatre girl she wants something that suites her, either from theatre or something literary. She thought of Romeo from Shakespeare and Mr. Darcy or Bingley from Pride and Prejudice.  Can't decide!

We would appreciate any suggestions!

Look at that face! We are in love!

Teacup Chandelier

Seems I am into make outdoor chandeliers since this is my third one. It has been wonderful to have these outside this summer to enjoy at night and during the day.

I challenge you to make one. You will really enjoy it and it beats paying full price for something crappy at the department stores. All you need is a recycled chandelier. Try a Habitat store, yard sale or maybe you have one in your garage!

Here are a few ideas of some I have made.

Pistachio chandelier

Black chandelier

I wanted to make one to sell in the store so I attached teacups and saucers to the top to hold tea lights.

I like doing this too! You can see my dessert tray post here using teacup saucers and a chandelier.

Using missed matched teacups and saucers and pretty beads, I turned a boring white chandelier into a fun candle holder for outside!

Glad I have a lot of space and trees to put these in. I think they would look great on a deck too!

Have fun creating!

I found this great material of a little french girl and Eiffel towers. I also added some to The Roost in Nolensville. I did my store in a Paris theme and thought this would look great there.

I paired it up with a hounds tooth back and a aqua ruffle. They are 20" slips with an envelope fold back for easy washing. All handmade!

Storage Baskets

Organizing Stuff!

Organizing. We all have to do it to stay sane! Why? Because we have too much stuff! So even after we go through and throw out, there are still things that need to be put in its place.

I have found several inexpensive ways to make storage solutions. I even have tried some. This idea came out of one of those think-outside-the-box moments.

While shopping for things to put in the store I came across these catering racks. You know, the ones that hold up the tinfoil pans. They were inexpensive and I liked the industrial look they had.  Some things you just know you can work with and these were coming home with me.

That sat on the table for me to stare at them.....
Another thing to take up space and add to the chaos and clutter...UGH!

This got me thinking....
What can these be used for?

I got some material that was sitting in a pile.

I thought that if this had some sort of liner it would make a great storage basket.

I think it would look great painting something on the side but I wanted it to be more generic for the store. The problem...still too plain.

I added some fun tags to a few so that it can be tied on and off. This can change it up a bit and will be great when washing the liner.

I love the way it came out.

There are so many possiblities to use these for.

For magazines
I added a house number

dog toys
I added a chalkboard tag

Towels
I added a cedar heart

Tons of ideas for all kinds of storage
They are a great size because they hold a lot!

I think adding the tags makes it fun and versatile! There a many things you can come up with to hang there.

Always rethink an item when you see it!

I want to say a special thank you to Tammy at TypeA for featuring my "Cool" Cooler!

Audrey Hepburn Trinket Box

I really love fast and easy projects that have an appeal. Taking something plain and dull and turning it to something beautiful.

I have always like the quote by Audrey Hepburn that says,

"For beautiful eyes, look for the good in others; for beautiful lips, speak only words of kindness; and for poise, walk with the knowledge that you are never alone."

That is beautiful in itself!

I found some craft boxes at the dollar store. They were plain, unpainted, hinged wood boxes. I wish I would have remembered to take a picture before it was painted.

I took turquoise and black paint and painted the box in a two tone color.

With the top black and bottom turquoise I felt it was kinda plain. I remembered I had made those flowers the other day.

I glued a white flower to the top and added some rhinestones around the lid.
Then I added a part of the quote to go around the box.

"...for beautiful lips speak only words of kindness..."

It makes such a nice gift box or a place to store something pretty!
